The European Commission published the results of a Eurobarometer survey commissioned by the DG Justice. They are presented in a comprehensive research investigating the perception of discrimination in the 27 states of the EU, where it is the effectiveness of public policies and knowledge of the rights of victims are also measured. The survey includes a focus on discrimination at work and another one on the most discriminated minority in Europe: the Roma. It is possible to download the entire report, or a summary of the results.
A significant contribution of the research consists in national factsheets, in English and in the national language of the selected country, that compare the national perception and the overall EU one.
In Italy, the outcomes evidence that ethnic and gender discrimination are stronger than the others. Furthermore, a deep influence of the economic crisis on the prevention of discrimination was registered as well as the lack of knowledge of the rights of the victims, the latter figure in line with the European trend.
